Sonata is used to help with
insomnia, or sleep problems.

Sonata Directions |
|
When you are ready to sleep, take Sonata. It will
help you fall asleep and stay asleep. Do not take
Sonata after a fatty or heavy meal. You should take
Sonata when you have at least four hours to sleep. You
should follow the instructions carefully. Do not use
it for longer than prescribed, take it more often than
prescribed, or in higher doses than directed. Sonata
could be habit-forming, so do not suddenly stop taking
the medication unless your doctor directs you to.

Sonata Side
Effects |
|
Studies show a slight occurrence
of mild side effects such as drowsiness, headache, or
upset stomach and nausea. Other more serious side
effects include loss of coordination, muscle or joint
pain, weakness, or dizziness. If extreme side
effects occur such as mental or mood changes,
persistent trouble sleeping, loss of appetite, memory
problems, tingling of the extremities, rash, itching,
tremors, eye or ear problems, fast/slow/irregular
pulse, chest pain, blood in the stool, unusual thirst,
trouble breathing, or change in amount of urine, you
should notify your doctor immediately.

You should always inform your doctor of your medical
history, including: allergies, liver disease,
lung/breathing problems, mental/mood problems,
alcohol use or drug dependence. Avoid alcohol, as it
may intensify certain side effects of this drug. Use
care when performing tasks requiring alertness. You
may have difficulty sleeping for a few nights after
you stop this medication. This usually goes away
after 1 or 2 nights. If sleep problems persist,
consult your physician. Elderly people may be more
sensitive to the effects of this medication. If you
are pregnant, you should discuss the risks and
benefits with your doctor before taking it. This
medication does pass into breast milk. Because of
the potential risk to the baby, using this
medication while breast-feeding is not recommended.
