Prescription Ambien Information
 |
Ambien Uses |
|
Ambien is intended to help
people who have short-term insomnia. Ambien helps
people with problems such as the difficulty falling
asleep, problems staying asleep, or problems with
early morning waking. It should only be taken for a
short time, maybe 7 to 10 days. Ambien is sometimes
prescribed for other uses.
|
 |
Ambien Directions |
|
Follow the Ambien directions carefully and do not
take more than prescribed. Take Ambien with a full
glass of water just before bed. Don't take the dose
too early in the evening, since extreme drowsiness
could cause balance problems. If you have been using
this medication for more than 14 days, do not stop
taking it suddenly, as you may experience withdrawal
symptoms.
|
 |
Ambien Side
Effects |
|
Ambien can possibly cause
serious side effects. If you experience any of the
following, stop taking the medication, and consult
your doctor immediately: allergic reactions
(difficulty breathing, swelling of your throat, lips
or face), hives, hallucinations, confusion, or any
other abnormal behavior. If you experience any of
these less serious side effects, you may continue
taking Ambien, but should notify your doctor:
headache, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea,
vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation; depression;
muscle aches or pains; vivid or abnormal dreams; or
amnesia after a dose. Ambien can be habit forming, so
do not suddenly stop taking it if you have been using
it for more than 14 days. Other side effects not
listed may also occur. Consult your physician about
any side effects that are continuous or bothersome.
|
 |
Ambien Warnings |
|
Tell your doctor if you have ever had liver disease
prior to taking Ambien. You may not be able to take
it, or you may require a dosage adjustment or
special monitoring. Do not take Ambien without
talking to your doctor first if you are pregnant or
breast-feeding.
|
 |
Ambien Drug
Interactions |
|
Ambien may react with other
medications to cause increased drowsiness. Do not take
Ambien with alcohol, sedatives, antidepressants,
antihistamines, muscle relaxers, pain relievers, or
anxiety medications. You should always inform your
doctor of all other medications that you are currently
using, including prescription and over-the-counter
products.
|
 |
Ambien Missed Dose |
|
If you miss a dose of Ambien, skip it
and go on with your usual schedule.
Never double up on doses of Ambien.
|
 |
Ambien Storage |
|
Ambien should be stored at room temperature and away
from sunlight and moisture. As with any medication,
keep Ambien out of the reach of children.
